Folded Polymer Banknotes Remain Valid

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has confirmed that folded polymer banknotes are still valid for transactions. This announcement addresses recent concerns that some establishments were refusing to accept folded polymer notes. The BSP clarified that both folded paper and polymer banknotes remain legal tender and should be accepted by retailers and banks for everyday transactions.

To maintain the integrity and longevity of these banknotes, the BSP has issued guidelines on their proper handling. These guidelines suggest using wallets that fit the banknotes well and keeping them clean. Despite these recommendations, the central bank emphasized that folding does not affect the validity of the banknotes unless they are significantly damaged.

The BSP's clarification aims to dispel any misunderstandings and ensure smooth transactions across the country. The public is encouraged to report any incidents where folded banknotes are not accepted, reinforcing that such notes, regardless of minor folds, are valid and should be accepted in all transactions.
